summer internship positions

Spend the summer as an Economist, Economics Assistant, IT Specialist, or Computer Assistant and put your skills to work in your own field.

Economics Assistant/Economist (multiple positions)

  • Conduct economic research, or assist a senior economist in conducting research
  • Minimum requirement: one course in economics
  • Preferred: 3rd or 4th year economics major or graduate student in economics

Computer Clerk/Assistant/IT Specialist (multiple positions)

  • Perform data management tasks such as data compilation, statistics, and validation of data and computation results
  • Assist in the implementation of web and Internet technologies, web site layout, navigation, and design
  • Preferred: Information technology/computer science major with knowledge of MS Office software packages, programming and statistics OR graduate student with experience in at least one of the following: web site content management, usability testing / heuristics, web metrics / analysis, information design, data visualization, information architecture for the web, multimedia technologies, search systems and interfaces

  • Housing and transportation to/from the D.C. area will not be paid by ERS

Applicant Qualifications:

  • Because an internship is an "excepted service appointment," candidates must be a citizen of the United States or of a country allied with the U.S. in a defense treaty agreement or exempted by Congress. (For the list of eligible countries, see http://www.afm.ars.usda.gov/hrd/jobs/visa/countries.htm). Noncitizens must have either a green card indicating lawful admittance or another form of authorization to be employed (H-1B visa or Employment Authorization Document). Please note, the internship must be consistent with any stipulations on visas or employment authorizations about the type of employment for which the student is authorized
  • Candidates must also be currently enrolled in a college or university
  • And, applicants must be planning to continue their education in the next year
