American Liberty Partnership

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the American Liberty Project?
In a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House, President George W. Bush unveiled the American Liberty Project. The Internet initiative brings online support to those organizations that most need help -- organizations that have been sustaining incredible burdens in order to serve the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks and their families. Visitors can offer financial support to these organizations and obtain general information about the relief effort.

The partners in the American Liberty Project believe that the goodwill and resolve of the American people is more than equal to the task of meeting the needs that have emerged in these terrible days -- and that will continue to emerge in the days and weeks ahead. The partners also believe in the power of the Internet to build communities around important causes and to provide critical support for nonprofit organizations.

How were the charities selected?
The charities highlighted on the American Liberty Project were selected in collaboration with the State of New York, City of New York, Office of the Governor of New York, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Virginia Emergency Response Team.

Who are the partners of the American Liberty Project?
The partners include: Amazon.com, AOL Time Warner, Cisco Systems, eBay, Microsoft, and Yahoo!

How safe & secure is my donation?
The American Liberty Partnership does not use the personal information provided, except to complete the donation. In fact, personal information is disclosed to the charities only if you give us your permission. You may also choose to make your donation anonymously. The American Liberty Partnership will never sell, trade, or rent your personal information to other individuals or companies.

To keep online donations secure, the American Liberty Partnership uses industry-leading Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology.

How much of my donation will the charity receive?
Your contribution will go to your designated charity. The organization will owe no fees, charges or commissions on the contribution. The American Liberty Partnership is covering all of the transaction costs associated with collecting and distributing your contribution, including the fees charged by the credit card companies.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. Donations made through the American Liberty Project Giving System are tax deductible. When you make a donation, be sure to save or print the confirmation e-mail you receive for your tax records. If you have any questions, however, as always, please consult a tax professional.

Who processes my donation?
The American Liberty Project is working in collaboration with PipeVine to process donations. PipeVine, also known as United Nonprofit Operations, Inc., is a public charity based in San Francisco, with a history of managing charitable payroll deductions and other contributions to nonprofit organizations.
