About NIOSH

NIOSH is the acronym for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, a Federal agency established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. NIOSH is dedicated to protecting the safety and health of all American workers by conducting scientific research, recommending safety and health standards, and disseminating prevention information. One of NIOSH's responsibilities is to make recommendations for standards to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). To address health and safety problems of American workers, NIOSH employs over 1400 individuals in a variety of occupations.

NIOSH is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). We are headquartered at DHHS in Washington, D.C., with many of the scientific and administrative oversight activities in Atlanta, GA, and research laboratories in Cincinnati, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Morgantown, West Virginia; and Spokane, Washington. A field activity for research and technical studies is located in Anchorage, Alaska. NIOSH also provides technical and consultative services from offices in Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; Denver, Colorado; and Washington, D.C. For more information about NIOSH see "About NIOSH".

NIOSH is seeking career professionals to conduct research or field investigations, serve as expert consultants, design research studies, and develop recommended standards for occupational safety and health. Applicants should be trained in chemistry, physics, engineering, industrial hygiene, safety, biology, toxicology, medicine, public health, epidemiology, environmental health, occupational health, statistics, or computer science. NIOSH is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

NIOSH is committed to a workplace where all people are respected as individuals and are valued for their contributions to accomplishing its mission. The NIOSH vision for diversity is to enhance the organization’s ability to attract, recruit, hire, mentor, develop, retain, and serve a diverse population by fostering an inclusive environment that embraces, values and respects all individuals.
