State Programs: Focus Area F
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the fiscal (FY) 2003 cooperative agreement program to upgrade capacities of state and
local public health jurisdiction's terrorism planning, preparedness, and response.
Within this cooperative
agreement, the program component for emergency risk communication
and health information dissemination (known as "Focus Area F"
during the current and previous funding cycle) includes guidance to state
and local public health agencies for terrorism and other public health
emergencies.
In addition, Attachment
F of the agreement provides a list of recipient activities to establish
critical capacity.
During the 2002 funding cycle, the CDC disseminated approximately $918
million to state and local health departments. About five percent or $46
million was allocated for emergency risk communication.
More than $47 million was distributed to state health departments as part of the continuation of the cooperative agreement for fiscal year 2003. This funding provides opportunities to enhance state and local public health communication needs such as staffing, resources, and the ability to meet public information demands.
In it is also of interest to note that the CERC,
CDCynergy:ERC-Direct users, and CDCynergy:ERC-TTT
all meet Focus Area F Requirements.
