Introduction to Public Places

The information provided here will guide you in your effort to eliminate smoking in all enclosed public facilities, including but not limited to

  • Aquariums
  • Child care and adult day care facilities
  • Clinics
  • Convention facilities
  • Community centers
  • Dining areas
  • Elevators
  • Galleries
  • Hospitals
  • Lecture halls
  • Libraries
  • Movie theaters
  • Museums
  • Nursing homes
  • Performance halls
  • Polling places
  • Public transportation facilities (including buses and taxicabs) under the authority of your city government, such as ticket, boarding, and waiting areas of public transit depots
  • Restrooms, lobbies, reception areas, hallways, and other common-use areas
  • Rooms, chambers, and places of meeting or public assembly (including school buildings) that are under the control of an agency, board, commission, committee, or city or county council; or, if these places are under the control of a political subdivision of the State when a public meeting is in progress, to the extent the place is subject to the jurisdiction of your city or county
  • Service lines (i.e., waiting in a line, indoors, to receive a service)
  • Sports arenas, including enclosed places in outdoor arenas
  • Theaters
