New Members of NATO

On March 29th, 2004, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) by depositing their instruments of accession in Washington, DC. These seven countries have committed themselves to the shared values of freedom and democracy that are the foundation of the alliance and have already been contributing to NATO operations in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan.
