REP. JENNIFER DUNN SPONSORED MT. RAINIER BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENT BILL PASSES SENATE

September 15, 2004

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Dunn's Mt. Rainier Boundary Adjustment Bill, H.R. 265 passed out of the Senate this evening clearing the last hurdle so that it can be signed into law by the President.

"This is wonderful news for Mt. Rainier National Park and for the local communities that have been so supportive of this bill. We have worked long and hard on this legislation and truly crafted a bill in a very collaborative fashion.  I thank Senator Cantwell for all of her work on passing the bill out of the Senate,” said Congresswoman Dunn.

H.R. 265 passed out of the House earlier this year and will allow the National Park Service to relocate a popular campground in the Carbon River area of the Park that is no longer accessible because of heavy flooding over the years.  The road to the campground is unsafe and often underwater when the Carbon river floods.  Several private landowners are willing to sell the land necessary to the park to build a new campground and to provide land for a permanent visitor's center near Wilkeson , Washington.
