About GSA
Office of Governmentwide Policy Transportation Management Policy Division

Transportation Management Policy Division’s (MTL) mission is to improve the management of the federal government’s transportation practices. These practices include the activities of acquiring, managing, and paying for the shipping and storage of government’s general freight and it’s employee’s household goods.

MTL facilitates governmentwide reform through the promotion of regulatory flexibility and incorporation of industry best practices. Working collaboratively with agencies, industry and associations, MTL facilitates making the federal government’s management processes more efficient and effective.

Strengths:

  • MTL aligns its management reform initiatives with four of the five-governmentwide initiatives found in the President’s Management Agenda (PMA). These PMA initiatives are Expanded Electronic Government, Improved Financial Performance, Budget and Performance Integration, and Strategic Management of Human Capital.
  • MTL’s clear mission is driven by the single purpose of improving the management of $16 billion of procured transportation services. This mission aligns with Office of Governmentwide Policy’s mission of improved governmentwide management. The majority of MTL’s success is accomplished through the Governmentwide Transportation Policy Council (GTPC) and its working groups.
