Rural Development in Maryland recently awarded a $50,000 value-added agricultural product market development grant to Kilby Cream to process their farm-fresh milk into quality ice cream. First Responder Initiative Rural Development has extended the deadline for public comments on proposed rules for the renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvements program. The deadline is now December 15, 2004. $1.74 million in grant funds is available to help the Delta Regional Authority reduce severe and chronic economic distress in Mississippi Delta region communities. Rural Development has issued A $1.7 million loan guarantee to Waldron Lumber Company in Nelsonville, Ohio. USDA announced the creation of a new rural development program that will provide a long-term funding mechanism for loans and grants to rural America. $8.8 million in broadband community connect grants will be awarded to 16 communities in 10 states to connect essential community facilities in rural towns and communities where no broadband service exists. USDA has begun selecting members for the National Rural Development Coordinating Committee, which will incorporate state, local, federal and private sectors' goals into an overarching national rural strategy. Agriculture Secretary Veneman announced the award of $162,500 in grants -- including $100,000 from Rural Development -- to the Future Farmers of America. Audit Guidance Now Available |
