Most NSF programs in biology are funded through the
Directorate for Biological
Sciences. However, activities with biological
relevance are supported by virtually all parts of
the Foundation: examples include Biological Oceanography,
in the Directorate for
Geosciences; Bioengineering and Environmental
Systems, in the Directorate
for Engineering; and Physical Anthropology, in
the Directorate for
Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences. Note
that NSF does not normally support bioscience research
with disease-related goals, including work on the
etiology, diagnosis or treatment of physical or mental
disease, abnormality, or malfunction in human beings
or animals.
