Genetics Services strives to improve the health of children who have genetic disorders. We seek to provide all people of Texas with equal access to all of our services. We provide leadership in evaluating and securing quality genetic health care. We want to give opportunities for Texans to achieve the best progress in their pursuit of wellness.

  • Explain the medical facts behind a disorder
  • Give you information about the disorder and possible problems
  • Discuss how to cope with disorders

or a member of your family.

  • Mental Retardation
  • Developmental delays
  • Physical abnormalies
  • High risk populations
  • Adoptive placements
  • Problems with pregnancy*

*If you are considering pregnancy and one of the following applies to you, you may benefit from using genetic services.
  • Married within their own biological family
  • Are more than 35 years old
  • Have been exposed to substances that may cause birth defects (nicotine, alcohol, illegal drugs, etc.)
  • Have had a stillbirth
  • Have had more than 3 miscarriages
  • Have had a previous child with birth defects
  • Have a family history of mental retardation or birth defects
