Teachers tell us they want to promote peak performance by teaching students to eat well. They want to help themselves and their students to the beauty and joy of good food and good health. But teachers just don't have the time. Time is such a precious commodity for everyone, but especially for those molding young minds. We want to help. We recognize the extra effort that it takes to bring Team Nutrition into the classroom and we're doing everything we can to make it easier for you.

We're making our classroom curriculum and activities available to you, on-line. And, wherever possible, we have PDF files of our other materials that you can download from our Resources section.

bullet The Power of Choice
The Power of Choice was developed by HHS' Food and Drug Administration and USDA's Food and Nutrition Service. It is intended for after-school program leaders working with young adolescents. Everything you need to know is in the Leaders' Guide, including most activity materials. It's full of quick, simple things to do with kids; many activities take little or no pre-planning. The publication contains 10 interactive sessions based on four posters. Included in the Leader's Guide are a recipe booklet, parent letter, and Nutrition Facts cards. The CD contains additional activities, tips for improved communication with adolescents, a training video for the adult leaders, and a song for pre-teens.
bullet Reader's Corner
Here you'll find books related to food, nutrition and physical education. We've compiled this list for you to use with school-aged children at home and in the classroom.
bullet Youth Activities
These nutrition education activities have been adapted from The Community Nutrition Action Kit. The Kit was designed to enable communities to work together in motivating children and families to make food choices for a healthy diet. It is the result of collaborative effort within the U.S. Department of Agriculture: the Food and Nutrition Service; Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service; and the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. The Community Nutrition Action Kit is available for download, but this on-line version shouldn't be missed!
bullet yourSELF Middle School Education Kit
This program was developed to help students in grades six through nine understand how their decisions about eating patterns and physical activity today can affect the way they grow and their health for years to come. The yourSELF kit will help you introduce new information to your students, reinforce what they already know, and help you work with your students to develop the “how-to” skills they need to make appropriate eating and physical activity choices now and in the future.
bullet Elementary In-School Curriculum
Food and Me, Food Time and Food Works

These three kits provide the core nutrition education instruction for Pre-K through Grade 5 children. As the teacher, you determine the success of the delivery of positive nutrition education messages to these children. The objective is to educate children about the importance of their food choices and the basis for making choices in order to change eating behaviors. Such change will have a positive affect on children's health for the rest of their lives.
