NTA Testimony before Senate Finance Committee National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson, Testifies before the Senate Committee on Finance on the Tax Gap and Tax Shelters. Ms. Olson states..."it is essential that the IRS strive to maintain a balance between enforcing the laws and protecting taxpayer rights. A balanced approach protects taxpayer rights as aggressively as the law is enforced."
Reports to Congress National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson has delivered a report to Congress that calls for enhanced protection of taxpayer rights by tax administrators and improvements in the offer-in-compromise, collection due process and tax e-filing programs.
Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) Program The National Taxpayer Advocate, Nina Olson, announces that the 2005 Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) grant application process opens May 1, 2004. Organizations providing low cost or no cost representation to people involved in tax disputes can apply for grants worth up to $100,000.
Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) The Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) is launching a recruitment drive for new members. Part of the Taxpayer Advocate Service, TAP provides a forum for citizens to make suggestions regarding IRS decision making. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, current on their income taxes, and able to commit about 300 hours during the year to the panel. For more information go to www.improveirs.org.
