Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, Homeland Security Department—On March 1, 2003, the border inspection functions of the U.S. Customs Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and APHIS, along with the U.S. Border Patrol, were transferred to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection. This new agency unifies all federal agencies responsible for border enforcement, protection, and inspection at and between the over 300 ports of entry into the United States

Office International des Epizooties (OIE)—An intergovernmental organisation created by the International Agreement of 25 January 1924. In May 2002, the OIE totalled 162 member countries.

Animal Production and Health Division—Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations—Includes monitoring the occurrence and impact of animal diseases, including emerging diseases, development and coordination of strategies and policies for the effective prevention and progressive control of major animal diseases, safeguarding animal and public health, and public-private synergy in the delivery of animal health and livestock services.

International Plant Protection Convention—This site provides details on this treaty. Legal texts are available for current and earlier versions of the treaty.

North American Plant Protection Organization(NAPPO)—NAPPO is a Regional Plant Protection Organization of the International Plant Protection Convention which coordinates plant resource protection efforts among Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

World Trade Organization (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures—Covers the basic rules in the WTO for an agreement on how governments can apply food safety and animal and plant health measures (sanitary and phytosanitary, or SPS, measures).

U.S. Trade and Investment Agreements, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—Free trade agreements can be bilateral (between two countries) or multilateral (between several countries). In the past decade, the United States has entered into several trade agreements that liberalize the trade of goods between the participating countries. This site provides details of the agreements.
