Clumped Algae
Caption:
This microscopic image shows clumped cells of blue-green algae. Algae deplete oxygen in stagnant summer waters of the estuary in the Neuse River in North Carolina. The algae sample was taken as part of an on-going study of the Neuse to determine how pollutants are being transferred into the river.
