  What Does my State Say?

Every state has specific laws that address child labor issues. When federal and state standards are different, the rules that provide the most protection to youth workers will apply. Employers must comply with both federal law and applicable state laws.
The following table provides a listing of states that have special websites or initiatives (not state laws) designed for the Young Worker but may not be included on the YouthRules DOL child labor laws map listing above.

  • Young Workers in Agriculture. Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (2003, March), 494 KB PDF 4 pages. This pamphlet/booklet in English and Spanish answers many questions employers and minor workers have about employing minors. Covers agriculture work rules, including the necessary permits, hours and work conditions for workers 12-17 years of age.
