Strategic Compensation Conference Scheduled for August 2000

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will host its annual Strategic Compensation Conference August 28-29, 2000, at the Washington Hilton & Towers, Washington, D.C. Following the 2-day conference, OPM will offer an extra day of informative post-conference workshops that support the messages and principles discussed at the conference.

The theme for this year's conference is Strategic Compensation: Choosing the Best Course for Today and Tomorrow. Topics will address the Federal compensation environment—pay and leave administration, performance management, position classification, and efforts to improve the compensation tools available to support agency missions. Conference speakers will provide participants with a wide range of information that includes both practical information for today and considerations for the future.

This conference provides an excellent opportunity for Federal managers and human resources practitioners to network with other professionals from across the country to learn the latest about strategies for using compensation programs to achieve organizational goals and enhance workforce effectiveness.

The post-conference workshops address subjects critical to strategic compensation, including:

  • measuring employee performance and aligning performance with organizational goals;
  • strategic use of awards;
  • pay administration;
  • understanding Federal leave systems;
  • classification survival skills;
  • classification for experienced practitioners; and
  • taking performance- and leave-based actions.

If you attended last year's Strategic Compensation Conference, or the Performance Management Conference or Classification Symposium in previous years, you won't want to miss this event. You can begin choosing the best course for today and tomorrow by choosing to attend the Strategic Compensation Conference today.
