The CDC Visitor and Education Center
The
success of the Global Health Odyssey Museum proved to us that many, many
people are interested in CDC's life-changing, mysterious, and sometimes
dangerous work. Our new museum will tell the dramatic story of our
history and world-changing accomplishments, advancing CDC's mission "to
promote health and the quality of life by preventing and controlling
disease, injury, and disability."
Scheduled to open in 2006, the CDC
Visitor and Education Center will serve as a
gateway to CDC's Roybal Campus, and will provide the space and resources
necessary to communicate our history, our current work, and to inspire
people to take greater interest in the field of public health and the
benefits of prevention. The museum's 19,000
square feet will be an interdisciplinary forum with innovative permanent
and changing exhibits, educational programs, and presentations that can
paint a complete portrait of CDC and its worldwide network of partners.
Drawing upon many disciplines, from art to sociology, the CDC
Visitor and Education Center will inform,
engage and intrigue visitors with a wide open, brightly-lit exploration
of facts and ideas. Exhibitions will be layered with visual and written
information along with highly-interactive experiences for all visitors.
Additional seminars, lectures, films, cultural events and other programs
are sure to educate all who visit about the interplay of health, culture
and society.
