Speakers Bureau

Instructions for Requesting a Volunteer CDC Speaker

The CDC Volunteer Speakers' Bureau is made up of CDC employees in all ranks, grades, and area of expertise. They volunteer their time if work permits. Each request is sent to those employees who can speak on the requested subject. Sometimes, we are unable to fill a request because volunteers with the expertise you need cannot fit the date requested into their schedules. If you know who you want to speak, send the request directly to that person instead of the Volunteer Speakers' Bureau.

Before I can forward a request to the volunteer speakers, I must be able to give them complete details. Please include the following information in your letter of invitation and mail, e-mail or fax it and the Request for Speaker form (PDF) (WordPerfect) to the address below.

Information to Include in Your Letter of Invitation

  • Organization's name, address, and phone number.
  • Name of meeting or convention.
  • Date, time and location (complete street address) of speech or presentation.
  • Subject or topic of speech. Be as specific as possible.
  • Type of audience and how many will be in attendance.
  • Any offer of reimbursement to CDC or the speaker. CDC speakers are government employees and cannot accept an honorarium if they are speaking on a work-related topic.

  • If your group is in Atlanta, disregard the following:

  • The items that can be reimbursed or provided include:
    • Transportation to and from destination.
    • Ground transportation to and from the airport.
    • Local transportation costs (e.g., taxi, limo, bus).
    • Lodging.
    • Meals.
    • Miscellaneous expenses (Federal employees cannot accept an honorarium if they are speaking in an official capacity).
