FAQ
DOCLINE -- ISO ILL Protocol
Question: What is the ISO ILL Protocol?
Answer:
- The ILL protocol allows users to exchange messages (requests) between proprietary interlibrary loan systems.
- This will allow DOCLINE libraries that are using a Protocol-compliant ILL system to send, receive, and fill DOCLINE requests without logging into DOCLINE. DOCLINE requests will not need to be manually receipted, exported, or imported.
- The library only logs in to DOCLINE to get more information on the status of requests, update serial holdings, update the institution record, or retrieve statistical reports.
- When using a Protocol-compliant system, DOCLINE libraries can include DOCLINE as just one stop in their string of lenders. A lender string can include systems (such as DOCLINE or OCLC) and individual libraries use the Protocol.
