Dolen Morris (Research Soil Scientist) and Barry Glaz (Acting Research Leader) attended the "Invasive Species and Agro-Ecosystems Research Partnership Workshop" August 17, 2004, at the USDA- ARS Center in Ft. Pierce, FL. Other institutions with attendees were USDA-ARS facilities in Tifton, GA; Brooksville, FL; Ft. Pierce, FL; FT. Lauderdale, FL; and Miami, FL; the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), the South Florida Water Management District, and the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Glaz gave a presenytation on Improved Crop/Animal Production Systems which reviewed ARS research objectives, recent research accomplishments, and research gaps at Brooksville, Ft. Pierce, Miami, and Canal Point. In the afternoon, Glaz and Morris attended a breakout session with others from ARS, IFAS and NRCS that idntified research needs and partnerships in Improved Crop/Animal Production Systems.
On September 13 Peter Tai and Serge Edme (Research Geneticists), Jack Comstock (Research Plant Pathologist) and Barry Glaz (Acting Research Leader) will attend a meeting with Florida sugarcane growers and Florida Congressman Alan Boyd. The purpose of the meeting is for growers to discuss ongoing research and research needs with IFAS and ARS scientist.
At the June meeting of the American Society of Sugar Cane Technologist, Dolen Morris wone the best-presentation prize in his session.
