01/13/04 -DRAFT of the Air Toxics Monitoring Strategy. The Air Toxics Monitoring Strategy serves two principal purposes. First, it provides a relatively comprehensive summary to date of the national air toxics monitoring program that started in 1998 and describes some of the major findings that currently shape program evolution as well as insight into a spectrum of technical and logistical issues underlying program implementation. Second, the report comments on the expected short and long-term products providing direction for agencies participating in the national program. This report should be viewed as a current status of the air toxics monitoring program, understanding that the program evolution is based more upon historical and forthcoming findings, than a prescriptive a priori vision. Accordingly, this is a living document that will adjust over time, continually reflecting status and direction of the national air toxics monitoring program. Therefore, this current version posted is expected to be final by summer of 2004; however, there will be updates in future years.

08/07/03 - EPA's National Air Environmental Lab., in support of the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards QA program has conducted a performance evaluation audit of the IMPROVE program lab operations at selected facilities which conduct routine analyses of IMPROVE monitoring samples. 07/16/03 - A copy of the report "Nylon Filter Extraction Study #2" highlights the results from a second series of experiments performed by EPA's National Air and Radiation Environmental Laboratory which studied the extraction efficiency of nitrate ion from nylon air sampling filter media used for collecting speciated PM_2.5 samples within the EPA chemical speciation and IMPROVE monitoring networks.

06/20/03 - Presentations from the QA National Meeting that was held in New Orleans, LA, April 14-17, 2003 are posted in the National Air Monitoring Strategy Information Area.

05/30/03 -EPA's National Air and Radiation Environments Laboratory performed a performance evaluation and systems audit of the California Air Resources Board Nothern Laboratory in Sacramento, CA, for compliance with the PM_2.5 Chemical Speciation Laboratory analysis quality assurance requirements. This report details the audit findings and is posted in the "Speciation" file area.

04/14/03 -A copy of the "National Ambient Air Quality Standard: Particulate Matter; Final Rule" is posted in the PM_2.5 Policy and Guidance Area. This rule reduces the PM_2.5 collocation requirement from 25% to 15%.
