Isidore-Lili Recovery At More Than A Quarter Billion Dollars

Baton Rouge, LA -- Following the pounding Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili hammered on Southern Louisiana, State and federal recovery assistance totals surged past the quarter billion dollar mark.

Summaries compiled by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness (LOEP) reflect funds committed to help Louisiana residents recover from the storms:

The following is a snapshot of the numbers: (through COB- January 1, 2003)

• $69,147,428 approved for disaster housing;
• $72,675,993 approved for individual and family grants;
• $50,576,300 in low-interest, long-term loans approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA);
• $60 million requested by state, cities, parishes and private, non-profit agencies under FEMA's Public Assistance program for repair or replacement of disaster-damaged roadways, bridges, removal of debris from rights-of-way and reimbursement of emergency services.
  Of that amount,
  • $23 million has been obligated for funding under FEMA's Public Assistance Program
  • $22 million awaiting final approval.
  • $15 million in non-federal funds provided by State, parishes, cities and non-profit agencies.

Tomorrow, Jan. 3 is the last day for residents to apply for assistance from Isidore and Lili. Tropical Storm Isidore made landfall near Grand Isle in Jefferson parish on Sept. 26, 2002. Lili came ashore just one week later on Oct. 3 near Marsh Island in Iberia Parish resulting in a Presidential disaster declaration that included 44 parishes, 39 for IA, all for PA.
