Electric Power Monthly
(PDF - 2 meg) (10/19/04) The latest issue is now available on EIA's Electricity page. The publication for October 2004 presents preliminary electricity sales and revenue data for the Transportation Sector for 2004. In January 2004, EIA revised its survey to specifically collect transportation data. These data consist primarily of electricity delivered to and consumed by local, regional and metropolitan mass transportation systems. Data being published for the first time in the October 2004 EPM include January through July monthly 2004 data. Comments on the Transportation data have also been included in the Technical Notes.
Historical copies of the EPM tables in Excel format have also been posted on the EIA website, dating back to the May 2003 publication of the EPM. These files can be accessed at the following address: http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/epm_ex_bkis.html.
The publication for October 2004 continues to present graphs in the executive summary showing the share of generation by energy source, the share of generation by sector, generation by the three major energy sources (coal, nuclear and natural gas), and the average retail price of electricity by end use sector.

(Form EIA-860) The preliminary data files with data as of January 1, 2004 are now available on EIA's Electricity Database Files in dbf and spreadsheet format. The data files contain information on existing electric generating capacity and planned capacity additions in the United States. The detailed data include plant location, plant primary purpose and associated generators’ prime mover, energy sources, nameplate capacity, summer and winter capacities and date of initial commercial operation. These data are collected from all electric utilities, independent power producers and commercial and industrial power producers who operate electric power plants that have a total nameplate capacity of one megawatt or greater. These data are used to assess the adequacy of the Nation’s existing and future electric generating capacity and to support various analyses of the electric power industry.
- Annual Electric Power Industry Report - Preliminary Data Files for 2003
(09/02/2004) The preliminary data files for the 2003 cycle Form EIA-861 are now available on EIA's Electricity Database Files in dbf and spreadsheet format. The data files contain information on electric utility operations including the production, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy, as well as utility-administered demand-side management programs and utility service areas. Data are collected from all electric utilities in the United States, the Dominion of Puerto Rico, and the Territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. The data series from the Form EIA-861 survey are used to support present and historical analyses of the electric power industry.
- Annual Electric Industry Financial Report
(08/31/2004)
The preliminary database for year 2003 Form EIA-412, is now available on EIA's Electricity Database Files in Excel spreadsheet format. The data file contains information regarding accounting and transmission data from electric industry utilities in the United States. These data are used to monitor the current status and trends of the electric power industry and to evaluate the future of the industry.
- Annual Steam-Electric Plant Operation and Design Database
(Form EIA-767) (HTML) (08/31/2004) The year 2003 Form EIA-767, preliminary database is now available on EIA's Electricity Database Files in Excel spreadsheet format. The data file contains information regarding steam-electric plant operations and equipment design, including boilers, generators, cooling systems, flue gas particulate collectors, flue gas desulfurization units, stacks and flues.
These data are used by the Environmental Protection Agency as the basis of their Emissions Allowance Tracking System.
- Cost
and Quality of Fuels for Electric Utility Plants 2001
(PDF - 1.4 meg) (3/2/04) The latest edition is now available
on EIA’s Electricity page. This Internet-only report contains tables compiled from
data reported by regulated electric utilities in 2001 on the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Form 423, “Monthly Report
of Cost and Quality of Fuels for Electric Plants.” Summary tables
include statistics on receipts of fossil fuels by type of fuel,
2000-2001; average delivered cost of fuels by type of purchase,
2000-2001; average quality of coal by state of origin, 2000-2001;
and receipts of coal by rank, 1997-2001. Chapter 1 tables present
fossil-fuel data at the census division and state level, including
receipts, average delivered cost, and type of purchase. Chapter
2 tables include data on the origin and destination of coal.
Chapter 3 tables contain fossil-fuel data at the electric utility
and plant level.
- State
Electricity Profiles 2002
(02/04/04) This Internet only report contains a summary of key
State electricity statistics for 2002 contrasted with 1997 and
1993. The tables present summary statistics for the 10 largest
plants by generating capacity; the top 5 utilities, ranked by
retail sales; electric power industry generating capacity by
primary energy source; electric power industry generation by
primary energy source; delivered fuel prices for coal, petroleum,
and natural gas; electric power emissions estimates; and retail
electricity sales, revenue, and average retail price of electricity
by sector.
- Electric
Sales and Revenue Spreadsheets
(12/17/2003) Spreadsheets are presented of retail sales information
collected on the Form EIA-861 survey (“Annual Electric Power
Industry Report”) for the calendar-year 2002 period, for each
retail electric service provider and distributor in the United
States, the Dominion of Puerto Rico, and the Territories of
American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands. Information includes
retail customer counts, revenue, megawatthour sales, and average
revenue per kilowatthour (price), by consumer sector, and by
state, with utility ownership. These spreadsheets are designed
to replace the discontinued publication “Electric Sales and
Revenue 2000” and prior year publications.
- Annual
Electric Power Industry Report
(12/16/2003) The final 2002 Form EIA-861, “Annual Electric Power
Industry Report” survey data files are presented in .dbf and
spreadsheet formats. They are now available on EIA’s Electric
Database Files page. The data files include information for
the calendar year 2002 reporting period on approximately 3,300
electric utilities in the United States, the Dominion of Puerto
Rico, and the Territories of American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin
Islands. Data provided include operational data such as summer
and winter system peak, net generation, wholesale power purchases
and sales, retail sales, wholesale and retail electric revenues,
and demand-side management information.
