Close Parallels: NSF Announces U.S.-Canada Mathematics Research Center

Media are invited to an announcement of a new U.S.-Canada partnership to establish a mathematics research station in Banff, Alberta. National Science Foundation Deputy Director Joseph Bordogna will unveil a $1.27-million NSF investment to support U.S. participation in the project.

The Banff facility will provide a world-class venue to form collaborations, advance research and share information on developments in mathematics research throughout North America. NSF's participation reflects its pledge to increase federal investment in the fundamental mathematical sciences, which underlie all science and engineering discovery.

The announcement will be made jointly via teleconference with Canadian officials in Banff and follows a symposium earlier in the day at each location. The U.S. symposium will highlight mathematical research on fuel cells, contributions of math to other fields of science and engineering, and mathematical technology.
