The National Science Foundation is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Program Director for the ADVANCE Program within the Office of the Assistant Director, Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences, Arlington, VA. The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) supports social, behavioral, and economic research that builds fundamental knowledge of human behavior, interaction, and social and economic systems, organizations and institutions. The purpose of the ADVANCE initiative is to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce. Through ADVANCE, NSF seeks to support new approaches to improving the climate for women in U.S. academic institutions and to facilitate women's advancement to the highest ranks of academic leadership. This will require significant institutional change and transformation in the nation's colleges and universities, and will demand close cooperation and collaboration between the Foundation and institutions and organizations in the public and not for profit sectors. This position will be filled on a one or two year Visiting Scientist Appointment, an IPA assignment, or as a Federal Temporary Appointment. Temporary and Visiting Scientist appointments will be made under the Excepted Authority of the NSF Act with a current salary range of $85,210 - $132,791, depending on qualifications and experience. For Visiting Scientist appointments, individuals are in a non-pay leave status from the home institution and are appointed to NSF's payroll as a Federal employee. NSF withholds FICA and provides reimbursement for fringe benefits. For Federal temporary appointments of more than one year, the usual civil service benefits (retirement, health and life insurance) are applicable. For IPA assignments, the individual remains an employee on the payroll of his or her home institution and the institution continues to administer pay and benefits. NSF reimburses the institution for NSF's negotiated share of the costs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Working with another ADVANCE Program Director, the Program Director has responsibility for developing a vision and a general plan, and for advising the AD/SBE and NSF senior management on the agency's new pilot initiative to increase the participation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering, within the framework of agency policies, legislation, and the NSF mission, goals, and resources. Provide leadership in the implementation of the ADVANCE initiative. Conducts outreach to inform the communities and the public about the initiative and its goals. Providing guidance to NSF leadership on the goals and implementation of ADVANCE, Manage the design and implementation of ADVANCE funding mechanisms provide oversight and coordination of $21M budget to fund awards for institutional transformation, leadership and individual research activities. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in one of the following; social, behavioral, physical, biological, geological, computer, or information sciences, economics, science education or engineering plus six or more years of research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the program is required.
