About NSF:

What do camcorders, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Doppler radar, and the Internet have in common? Beyond the fact that they have enriched people's lives, these innovations are the result of public investments in science and engineering made by the National Science Foundation.

Created in 1950, NSF is an independent U.S. government agency responsible for advancing science and engineering in the United States across a broad and expanding frontier. NSF makes merit-based grants and cooperative agreements and provides other forms of support to educators and researchers in all fifty states and in the U.S. territories. Realizing the promise of the 21st century depends in large measure on today's investments in science, engineering and mathematics research and education.
