to ensuring that American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians
have full and open access to business development and other tools
necessary to start and expand small businesses.
In 1997, there were 197,300 American Indian and Alaska Native-owned
businesses in the United States,
employing 298,700 people generating $34.3 billion in revenues.
The number of Native American businesses increased 84 percent
from 1992 to 1997. SBA is particularly interested in assisting
small business and economic development in disadvantaged tribal
areas.
The SBA is a very strong advocate for Native American
entrepreneurs and offers many programs and services to help them
