Mission:
The mission of the Forage Seed and Cereal Research Unit is to develop scientific information, technologies, and plant materials to ensure a stable supply of high quality forage and turf grass seed, wheat and hop. A systems approach is used to develop combinations of new germplasm and production practices and conservation technologies that are profitable and environmentally sustainable for growers in diverse Pacific Northwest agroecosystems. This research provides improved stress tolerance in wheat, turf and forage grasses and value added uses of grasses including biofuel feedstocks and other grass-based products as part of forage, turf, and conservation systems, and new hop germplasm with superior aroma, flavor and disease resistance.
