Research Project: Enhanced Monitoring and Assessment Protocols for Ground Defense Training and Noxious Weed Control

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 6235-11210-005-32
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jul 01, 2004
End Date: Sep 30, 2006

Objective:
(1) Extend monitoring through 2005 of the ecological impacts of military training activities conducted in support of the Holloman Air Force Base mission. (2) Determine trend. (3) Evaluate and adapt monitoring protocols developed by the Jornada Experimental Range for potential implementation at other installations and identify gaps in current monitoring protocols.

Approach:
Obj 1. Existing monitoring points will be remeasured. Data will be entered and summarized to generate standard indicators. Obj 2. Data will be compared with previous years' data in order to establish trends. Obj 3. Recommendations will be developed based on sensitivity to change, repeatability and time costs; and, we will identify gaps in current monitoring protocols based on a review of current data and comparison to management objectives.
