Research Project: Develop Production Systems for Enhanced Profitability of Soybeans in the Mid South

Location: Crop Genetics and Production Research

Project Number: 6402-21000-004-02
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Jul 13, 2001
End Date: Jul 12, 2006

Objective:
The objectives are to develop optimal management practices for production of early maturing varieties, to develop a regional database (DELTASOY) containing soybean variety test results from different environments and disease trials, and to develop a soybean phenological model.

Approach:
Maturity Group III and IV varieties will be planted at different dates and in different environments to determine optimal management practices for early maturing varieties. Environmental parameters may include irrigation, different soil types, different row spacing, and different weed control practices. Results from official variety tests from Mississippi and surrounding states will be entered in the DELTASOY database. Disease reactions and herbicide resistance will be recorded for each entry. The database will be available to researchers and farmers via the Internet. Data on soybean phenological developmente (branching, plant stature, growth type, etc.) will be collected from various tests. The data will be used to build a useful soybean development model.
