Research Project: Pathogenic Bacteria Breakthrough in Soils As Affected by Physical Meterogeneity

Location: Environmental Microbial Safety

Project Number: 1265-32630-002-08
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Sep 01, 2002
End Date: Dec 31, 2004

Objective:
To research effects of soil physical heterogeneity on bacteria transport in soil columns.

Approach:
To conduct a series of column experiments on conservative tracer and bacteria breakthrough in saturated soil columns; to characterize soil physical heterogeneity, and to compare performance of simulation models based on concurrent concepts of dispersive transport and kinetics of attachment-detachment of bacteria to soils.
