Welcome to the Soil Drainage Research Unit

The Soil Drainage Research Unit is located at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and has been actively involved in agricultural drainage research for over 40 years.

Our research deals with the effects of water table management (drainage/controlled drainage/ subirrigation) and flooding tolerance on corn and soybean crops in the Midwest region. Specifically, our objectives are to:

Develop water table management strategies that minimize the impact of excess and deficit soil water on year-to-year variability of crop yield.

Develop crop varieties that are more tolerant to short periods of excess soil water.

Determine the effect of subirrigation and controlled drainage water table management systems on the movement and fate of agricultural chemicals.
