Research Project: Performance Evaluation for Subsurface Drainage Installation Equipment

Location: Soil Drainage Research

Project Number: 3604-13000-007-02
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 07, 2000
End Date: Sep 06, 2005

Objective:
To assist in the development and field testing of monitoring equipment and testing procedures to evaluate the accuracy of the placement of drain pipes by drainage plows, including, but not limited to, the newer pull-behind plows that are intended for use by farmers inexperienced in design and installation of water management systems.

Approach:
Conduct field evaluations of selected drainage plows, in Ohio, other midwestern states and Ontario, Canada, as appropriate and necessary. Develop draft drainage pipe installation performance evaluation guidelines and procedures and share these with appropriate agricultural and water management stakeholders in the United States and Canada. Develop educational materials and conduct educational programs related to the operation and performance of drainage plows.
