National Women’s History Month Program: “Women Pioneering the Future”


The U.S. Department of State’s Office of Civil Rights and the Secretary’s Open Forum are co-sponsoring a program in honor of the accomplishments of women in our nation’s history. The program will be held in the Harry S Truman Building, Dean Acheson Auditorium, 2201 C Street, NW, Washington, D.C., on Monday, March 10, 2003, from 3 to 4 p.m. The national theme for 2003 is “Women Pioneering the Future.”

Dr. Ellen Ochoa, Deputy Director of Flight Crew Operations, Johnson Space Center, in Houston, Texas, will share with Department of State employees her fascinating professional voyage that took her into orbit.

The Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Color Guard from Washington, D.C., will present the Colors.

Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver’s license or passport). Members of the press should enter through the Department of State’s 23rd Street entrance, between C and D Streets, NW.
