Description
Important Announcement for Proposal Submission
The domain of the Hydrologic Sciences is defined as follows:
Continental Water Processes – The physical and chemical processes characterizing or driven by the cycling of continental water
(solid, liquid, and vapor), at all scales (from the microprocesses of soil water to the global processes driving floods and droughts) as
well as those biological processes that interact significantly with the water cycle.
Global Water Balance – The spatial and temporal characteristics of the water balance (solid, liquid, and vapor) in all compartments
of the global system: atmosphere, oceans, and continents. (It includes water masses, residence times, interfacial fluxes, and
pathways among these compartments, but not those physical, chemical, or biological processes internal to the atmosphere and ocean compartments.)
Hydrologic science is interactive on a wide range of space and time scales with
the ocean, atmospheric, solid earth, and plant and animal sciences. Support for
hydrologic science at NSF is managed to foster these interactions by
encouraging inter-disciplinary proposals, and by linking with other NSF
programs to arrange joint funding when appropriate.
Target Dates and Deadlines
