The Program recognizes the "public services" provided by many of its PIs for the good of the broader research and applications communities, for the public, and for local, state and federal policy makers. For example, the participation in Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) periodic and special assessments, as lead and contributing authors and reviewers. The Program encourages its PIs to continue or begin to participate in public services of this kind, and considers this factor in its overall evalution of proposals.
