Nine Honorees to Receive Secretary of Labor's New Freedom Initiative Award

Five businesses, three non-profits, and one National Football League player have been selected by U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao as recipients of her Annual New Freedom Initiative (NFI) Awards. The NFI Award recognizes exemplary and innovative efforts to train, recruit, and hire people with disabilities, and to incorporate the principles of President George W. Bush's New Freedom Initiative (NFI).

U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao awarded a $1.5 million technical assistance grant to the Corporation for Supportive Housing as part of a Bush Administration initiative to end chronic homelessness among persons with disabilities.

Video of Emergency Preparedness Seminar is Available Online

Video clips from ODEP's Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities Seminar of Exchange are now available online. The December 2003 event brought together more than 200 federal managers and experts representing nearly 90 agencies and offices in the areas of disability, emergency preparedness, and workplace safety. Attendees had the opportunity to exchange ideas and share information related to the development, implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness plans that involve people with disabilities.
