Research Project: Determination of Biocontrol Properties of Guayule-Based Wood Products

Location: Environmental and Plant Dynamics Research

Project Number: 5344-21410-004-02
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Aug 24, 2001
End Date: Apr 30, 2005

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to develop guayulebased wood products that are resistant to termite and wood-rot fungal attack.

Approach:
Cooperative preliminary results show that guayule-treated wood can control termite fungal activities. Laboratory biological tests will be made on various types of wood products fabricated from guayule byproducts to determine their resistance to termite and wood-rot organism attacks. Documents SCA with University of Illinois.
