Mission:
The mission of this unit is basic and applied development of new and improved citrus varieties and rootstocks, and cultural and management systems that combine: (1) improved yield potentials; (2) improved quality characteristics; (3) extended maturity season; (4) greater resistance to diseases, insects, and nematodes; (5) better soil adaptability; (6) greatertolerance of environmental stresses; (7) adaptation for mechanical culture,harvesting, and handling; and (8) conservation of natural resources. Development of basic genetic information on the cellular and molecular biology of citrus to reinforce conventional breeding.
