Stop Aggressive Driving/"Alto al Manejo Agresivo" was designed to reach as wide an audience as possible and features everyday people, such as young professionals, blue-collar workers, and moms picking up their children at daycare. All kit materials are in English/Spanish format and include editorials, drop-in-articles, and op-eds, radio PSAs, a brochure, mail-back cards and camera-ready cartoons for newspapers, newsletters and magazines. This approach of using English and Spanish in one publication is the one most favored by Hispanic organizations. The kit will be distributed to the media, the law enforcement community, Safe Communities coalitions, state and local governments, advocacy groups and service organizations.

This guide provides assistance to law enforcement leaders in how to plan for an aggressive driving enforcement program and, secondly, to look at a number of exemplary program that have been conducted around the country. Suggestions can be adopted or modified to fit any size law enforcement agency, with any number of officers and the resources that are available.

A compilation of the Department of Transportation's aggressive driving related projects and activities. Projects and activities originate from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration, and an intermodel Aggressive Driving Team comprised of several modes within DOT.

yellow bullet Aggressive Driving and the Law: A Symposium (posted 8-99)
In January 1999, NHTSA held a national symposium consisting of law enforcement, prosecutors and members of the judiciary to solicit ideas for developing guidelines for law enforcement and the judiciary for charging and sentencing, treatment of offenders and materials to increase awareness of the issue.

An Implementation Group comprised of the Symposium Moderators has been formed to develop a National Aggressive Driving Action Plan and to review and prioritize the recommendations made at the Symposium. The first meeting of this Group assembled in Washington DC on July 30, 1999. The Aggressive Driving and the Law Symposium Summary of Proceedings, containing participants' findings and recommendations, is available and on the NHTSA web site.

yellow bullet Aggressive Drivers View Traffic Differently Capital Beltway Focus Groups Report Finds (posted 4-98)

This study examined views of drivers on Washington's Capital Beltway from 1994 to 1997 in a series of focus groups. In 1997, aggressive driving had become one of the major concerns of motorists. The report documents differences between groups of aggressive and general drivers. Automated Traffic Law Enforcement Model Law (04-01)
This model statute for automated traffic law enforcement is designed to reduced traffic crashes and improved adherence to traffic laws through the use of photographic and electronic technology. Automated enforcement technology should be used at high crash locations, at high-risk locations, or in situations where traditional traffic enforcement cannot be utilized, either due to other law enforcement activities or at locations where inherent safety consideration exist.

yellow bullet National Survey of Speeding and Other Unsafe Driving Actions
NHTSA conducted a telephone survey in the spring of 1997 to learn about the public's experiences and beliefs about speeding, unsafe driving, including aggressive driving, enforcement, and other sanctions to counter these dangerous driving behaviors. A total of 6,000 interviews were completed in this nationally representative survey of drivers 16 and older.
