This document amends the regulation on Confidential Business Information to simplify and update the regulation to reflect developments in the law and to address the application of the regulation to the early warning reporting regulation issued pursuant to the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability, and Documentation (TREAD) Act.

* Early Warning Reporting of Information and Documents About Potential Defects Retention of Records That Could Indicate Defects (Final Rule): - 7/8/2002
In our notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) (66 FR 66190), we proposed to divide manufacturers of motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment into two groups with different responsibilities for reporting information that could indicate the existence of potential safety-related defects. There was no opposition to this approach, and we are adopting it.

* Notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM). Posted 12/20/2001
This document proposes to establish a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that contains provisions to improve the labeling of tires to assist consumers in identifying tires that may be the subject of a safety recall. It also contains proposals for providing other consumer information to increase public awareness of the importance and methods of observing motor vehicle tire load limits and maintaining proper tire inflation levels for the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
