BACKGROUND: Over a period of 3 days, the October 9-12 International Transportation Symposium will consider worldwide transportation issues while providing participants a unique opportunity to explore and consider possibilities for a global strategic vision for the new century and the new millennium on critical cross-cutting transportation issues in the aviation, surface and maritime areas. The symposium will provide attendees with opportunities to learn from one another by exchanging information about countries’ "best practices" with respect to such issues as changing consumer expectations, seamless modal integration, workforce capacity, e-commerce and its impact on transportation, information and technology advances, safety and security standards, and innovative financing of multi-modal transportation systems.

- The goal of this site, students.gov, is to provide a suite of online
government services and information to meet the specific needs and
interests of the student community. This idea stems from Vice
President Al Gore's Access America report (1997), which advocates
using the latest information technology to deliver government service
improvements that will affect all Americans, while dramatically
reducing costs, paperwork and waiting. Specific electronic services
will be bundled to serve specific customer groups. Students were
chosen as the the first customer group.
