Aggressive Driving Action Guide: A Criminal Justice Approach (posted 04/02/02)
This Guide, for use by State and local officials, legislative bodies, criminal justice practitioners, highway safety advocates and related organizations and communities, provides strategies and recommendations that address the problem of aggressive driving. This Guide is organized into six topic areas: (I) Statutory Strategies, (II) Enforcement Strategies, (III) Applied Technology, (IV) Charging Decisions, (V) Sentencing Strategies, and (VI) Community Leadership.

Aggressive Driving Enforcement: Strategies for Implementing Best Practices - (posted 01-00)
This guide provides assistance to law enforcement leaders in how to plan for an aggressive driving enforcement program and, secondly, to look at a number of exemplary program that have been conducted around the country. Suggestions can be adopted or modified to fit any size law enforcement agency, with any number of officers and the resources that are available.

Aggressive Drivers View Traffic Differently Capital Beltway Focus Groups Report Finds (posted 4-98)
This study examined views of drivers on Washington's Capital Beltway from 1994 to 1997 in a series of focus groups. The report documents differences between groups of aggressive and general drivers. Evaluation of the Aggression Suppression Program Milwaukee Wisconsin
This booklet contains the evaluation of the Aggressive Driving Demonstration Project, which was awarded to the City of Milwaukee Police Department in October 1998. This 18-month project included for gathering data to establish baseline information, an active enforcement and awareness phase and a process evaluation to document the results of Milwaukee s Aggression Suppression Program.

This document provides step-by-step guidance to assist with the development of traffic safety program support committees, the implementation of municipal speed enforcement and other special traffic safety programs.

Guidance for Using Red Light Cameras (posted 03/26/03) (pdf version available)
Guidance for Using Red Light Cameras can be used by State and local agency managers, transportation engineers, and law enforcement officials to identify and properly address safety problems resulting from red light running within their jurisdiction. National Survey of Speeding and Other Unsafe Driving Actions
NHTSA conducted a telephone survey to learn about the public's experiences and beliefs about speeding, unsafe driving, including aggressive driving, enforcement, and other sanctions to counter these dangerous driving behaviors. A total of 6,000 interviews were completed in this nationally representative survey of drivers 16 and older.

Speeding and Highway Safety Policy (posted 04-97)
The U.S. Department of Transportation's policy on highway speeds is to provide guidance to State and local governments to set speed limits that maximize the efficient and rapid transportation of people and goods while eliminating the unnecessary risk of crashes due to unsafe speeds. This policy promotes the concept that Federal, State, and local governments should have balanced programs that use the most cost-effective strategies for decreasing crash risks from speeding.

This Summary reports ONLY the status of State statutes (or regulations) that are concerned with either speed limit or speed related violations. Local laws are not reported.

Stop Aggressive Driving/"Alto al Manejo Agresivo" (posted 11-00)
A tool kit designed to make people aware of the growing problem of aggressive driving and to reach as wide an audience as possible. All kit materials are in English/Spanish format and include editorials, drop-in-articles, and op-eds, radio PSAs, a brochure, mail-back cards and camera-ready cartoons for newspapers, newsletters and magazines.

Strategies for Aggressive Driver Enforcement
Aggressive drivers create an unsafe driving environment through their inconsiderate, self-centered driving habits. Drivers often commit multiple violations, including: driving over the posted speed limit, following too closely, erratic or unsafe lane changes, improperly signaling lane changes, and failure to obey traffic control devices. Because of these driving behaviors, hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries occur each year, and contribute to the growing problems of hazardous traffic conditions and those criminal acts related to aggressive driving.

Strategies for Implementing Best Practices for Aggressive Driving Enforcement (posted 6-00)
