Research Project: Improving Reproduction and Health in Dairy Cattle Through Use of on-Farm Databases

Location: Animal Improvement Programs

Project Number: 1265-31000-085-08
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 01, 2002
End Date: Sep 30, 2005

Objective:
Obtain data and initiate research on health and reproductive traits; derived from on-farm herd management software programs.

Approach:
This research will identify large herd that record data on health and reproductive events in their on-farm database. The cooperator will develop programs to download these data from the farms into a central database, will assess the degree of consistency in data recording, and will develop measures of data quality such that the usefulness of data can be verified. The cooperator will make the data available to research scientists at USDA and other public institutions.
