Research Project: Arthropod Predators of Glassy-Winged Sharpshooters

Location: WCRL
Cotton Insect Pest Mgt/Biological Control/Genetics Research Unit

Project Number: 5344-22620-015-03
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 30, 2002
End Date: Nov 30, 2005

Objective:
Determine the key predators and their impact onthe population dynamics of glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS) in the Imperial and San Joaquin Valleys, California. Study the feasibility of conserving or augmenting these predators for population suppression of GWSS.

Approach:
The identity and importance of arthropod predators on GWSS populations will be determined by analyzing field-collected predators for GWSS prey remains using a GWSS-specific ELISA. Collections of predators on various host plants will be made and examined in the lab to determine their feeding frequencies on GWSS. Documents SCA with UC Berkeley.
