Research Project:
BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF SALTCEDAR IN TEXAS
Location:
Exotic and Invasive Weeds Research
Project Number: 5325-22000-017-17
Project Type:
Specific C/A
Start Date: Sep 24, 2001
End Date: Sep 30, 2005
Objective:
1)Conduct research of the biology and ecology of saltcedar in Texas. 2)Conduct biological control impact studies on Diohrabda elongata in Texas. 3)Release and monitor saltcedar natural enemies and their impacts. 4)Evaluate vegetation pattern changes and the impacts on associated flora and fauna in Texas.
Approach:
A combination of field and laboratory studies will be used to assess the population dynamics of newly released natural enemies of saltcedar. Estimates of population growth and spread will be assessed in combination with assessments of impact of the target plant population. Standard protocols of insect and plant monitoring will be followed as developed by the saltcedar consortium. GPS and GIS Technologies will be used to help assess landscape level effects on the affected ecosystems. Documents SCA with Texas A&M.;
