OPP Proposal
Information
NSF funds research and
education in science and engineering fields. The following
publications provide information on NSF research areas,
proposal submission process and deadlines,
and specific information concerning Antarctic and Arctic
research sponsored through the Office of Polar Programs at
NSF.
- This is a compilation of NSF
funding opportunities. This publication contains a
chapter on "Polar Programs" which describes research
opportunities in the Antarctic and the Arctic, proposal
submission deadlines for both polar regions, and some
general information on proposal submission process.
- This brochure provides guidance
for the preparation of unsolicited proposals to NSF.
Some NSF programs have specific program
announcements/solicitations which may modify the
general provisions of this brochure. Contact with NSF
program personnel prior to proposal preparation is
encouraged. Information in this brochure applies to all
NSF programs. Specific information and guidance on
Antarctic and Arctic Research is provided in the
following two publications.
- This brochure summarizes
Antarctic research opportunities, describes support
available in Antarctica, explains how to prepare a
proposal for research project support, provides
worksheets to be used in preparing the proposal, and
suggests sources of further information.
Antarctic
Artists and Writers Program (NSF 04-558)--Deadline: 2 June 2004
- The Antarctic Artists
and Writers Program is the component of the U.S.
Antarctic Program that provides opportunities for
scholars in the humanities (painting, photography,
writing, history, and other liberal arts) to be in
Antarctica or on the Southern Ocean--at research
stations, camps, ships, and wilderness areas--to make
observations needed to complete their proposed
projects. The purpose of the program is to enable
serious writings and the arts that increase
understanding of the Antarctic and help document
America's antarctic heritage.
- This publication describes how to
submit proposals for research in the Arctic and to
perform arctic research at institutions in the United
States.
