Cantor Secures $400,000 for Richmond ’s Office of Emergency Management  

September 30 Congressman Eric Cantor today announced that he was able to secure $400,000 for the City of Richmond ’s Office of Emergency Management through the Department of Homeland Security ' s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). more 


Congressman Cantor Participates in Reach Out and Read

August 23— Today Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-7) visited Henrico County Health Department to participate in their Reach Out and Read (ROR) program by reading to a group of young patients.  ROR encourages parents to read aloud to their children, gives tips and advice on how they can prepare their children to be strong readers, and sends them home from each visit with a new children’s book. more

Cantor Applauds Passage of Stock Options Accounting Reform Act  

July 21st Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-7) voted in favor of the Stock Options Accounting Reform Act (H.R. 3574) which would protect the ability of employers to offer their employees stock option incentives.  The bill passed the House yesterday by a vote of 312 to 111.  more

Cantor Secures $14.7 Million for Culpeper’s National Audio-Visual Conservation Center  

July 12th Virginia Congressman Eric Cantor announced today that he has secured $14.7 million in funding for the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC) located in Culpeper , Virginia .  The money was requested by Cantor and appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2005 Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, which passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 327-43. more


Cantor Statement on ICJ Ruling Against Israeli Security Fence  

July 9th Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement regarding the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling against the Israeli security fence:  “The ruling today by the International Court of Justice declaring the Israeli security fence a violation of international law is outrageous. This decision completely disregards the state of Israel ’s right to make its own decisions regarding national security and to deal with genuine threats to its very existence. more  


Cantor Secures Funding for the Little Fork Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co.  

June 24th Congressman Eric Cantor announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded a grant for $69,768 to the Little Fork Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co., located in Rixeyville ,Virginia .  The grant was distributed through the DHS 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program that helps enhance fire departments’ abilities to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities. more


Cantor Statement on Israel Resolution  

June 23rd– Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor (VA-07) made the following statement today on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in support of H.Con.Res. 460, a resolution endorsing the principles of strengthening security in Israel , articulated by President Bush in his April 14, 2004 , letter to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. The resolution also supports continuing efforts to help the Palestinians fight terrorism, dismantle terrorist organizations, and prevent the security threats to Israel .  more


Cantor Introduces Terrorism Risk Insurance Legislation

June 22nd – Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor (VA-07), and Reps. Pete Sessions (R-TX), Richard Baker (R-LA), and Sue Kelly (R-NY) today introduced H.R. 4634 legislation to reauthorize the federal terrorism risk insurance program.  Sessions is the sponsor and Cantor, Baker and Kelly are original cosponsors. more

Bush’s Jobs and Growth Bill Turns 1-year Old, Delivers Another 248,000 New Jobs

June 4th Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-7) touted today ' s announcement by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that 248,000 new jobs were created in May, contributing to the 1.4 million jobs created over the last nine months.  May’s job increase comes just one year after President Bush’s jobs and growth bill became law, demonstrating that this Administration’s economic policies are working. more

June 3rd Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-NY), a Chief Deputy Democratic Whip and Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA), the Chief Deputy Republican Whip, sent a letter to President Bush, calling for him to push for the adoption of a common G-8 strategy to confront the threat of Iran ’s nuclear weapons programs.  Over 209 members of the House signed the letter. more

Cantor Introduces Working Families Assistance Act  

May 18th– Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor (VA-07) and Congressman Mark Kennedy (R-MN) introduced the Working Families Assistance Act (H.R. 4372) to allow working families to carry forward $500 of unused benefits in cafeteria plans and flexible spending arrangements for child and dependent care. more


Cantor Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education Decision 

May 17th– Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement today on the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision that ended segregation in schools: “Fifty years ago, the Brown v. Board of Education decision ended segregation by exposing the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ as unconstitutional. While explicit segregation ended, a soft bigotry of lowered expectations set in to our educational system. That is the promise of the No Child Left Behind Act – to hold the education system accountable for results and provide parents with choices when their children’s schools fail them. more

Cantor Resolution Honoring Fire Responders Passes Government Reform Committee  

May 13th —This week the House Government Reform Committee passed Congressman Eric Cantor’s (VA-07) House Resolution (H.Res.612) honoring and recognizing the firefighters, police, public servants, civilians, and private businesses that responded to the devastating fires in Richmond on March 26, 2004. Over eighty agencies and organizations participated in the efforts to stop the fires. more


Cantor Announces 2004 Congressional Art Contest Award Recipients  

May 12thMonday, Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA) presented Mindy Winburn, a senior at Culpeper County High School , with the first place ribbon at the Seventh Congressional District Art Contest held at Virginia Center Commons Mall.  Students from Chesterfield , Culpeper , Hanover , Henrico, Louisa, and Madison Counties , as well as the City of Richmond submitted approximately 70 pieces of art this year. more
