Jeb and 401 other House members recently voted to soundly defeat a bill sponsored by Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY) which would require that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of national defense and homeland security. Identical legislation (S. 89) was introduced in the Senate by Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC), however, it is not expected to be taken up for debate.
“Hopefully, the outcome of this vote will put all of these politically-motivated rumors of an impending draft to rest,” said Jeb. “The citizens of New Hampshire and all Americans need to know that the vast majority of elected officials do not support a draft in any form.”more
